Opioid crisis: 5 years of health emergency in the province
April 15 marked the 5th anniversary of the state of health emergency linked to the opioid crisis. During these 5 years, more than 7000 people lost their lives. This unbearable situation is observed on a daily basis by the associations of the Downtown East Side, of which La Boussole is part.
Positive steps have been taken such as the democratization of naloxone - the antidote to opioids, the opening of supervised injection centers and the funding of the immense work done by associations on the ground. Other actions still need to be taken to try to stem the crisis and save lives: increasing access to safe products, decriminalizing drug possession and facilitating access for people who want them to withdrawal routes.
